The Dreaded Silence of the Night
The silence of the night
Magnifies the constant ringing--
The ringing in my ears.
Sleep spurns me.
Wakefulness reigns.
Disturbing flashbacks stalk my mind--
Rebounding to anxieties of the future.
I wait for sleep to no avail--
The ringing in my ears never cease.
I pray to God for mercy--
And thank and praise Him for His attributes.
I thank Him for the gift of eternal life
And pray for those who are in need.
I tell Him what a great
And compassionate God He is.
Slowly I feel calmer--
Inner peace flows through my body.
The ringing in my ears is softer.
I feel the sensation of drowsiness.
Sleep finally comes.
I awake to bright rays of sunshine
Shining through my window.
I feel exhilarated and ready
For the challenges of a new day,
And opportunities to serve and glorify God.
I imagine that God is smiling at me,
And I thank Him for His love and mercy.
